RAGBRAI 2023 Day 5.1 update – Sad news

Leah and Todd left Iowa for home yesterday (Thursday) soon after we arrived at our hosts’ house. I received the following text from her today to share with you all:

“Kathleen (our friend who was keeping our dogs while we are out of town) called yesterday after we finished our ride to let us know that our 16 year old distinguished gentleman, Ziggy, was not doing well. It was time to say goodbye. We made an executive decision to cut our trip short and come home to do just that.

We arrived this morning safely around 1 am. It was hard to say goodbye, but we were glad that we could be with him when he crossed the rainbow bridge.

We hope that everybody’s ride went well today, and we were with you in spirit!”

RIP Ziggy Buddy. He was a good boy.

I was sad to see Leah and Todd go. RAGBRAI is not the same without them. But I know they made the right decision. Ziggy was a member of their family and it was important for them to be there for the final goodbyes.

My love goes to the Leah, Todd, and Lauren in this incredibly sad time.
